چکیده
The modification of the wetting properties marble surfaces upon multi-scale texturing induced by ultrafast laser processing (340 fs pulse duration, 1030 nm wavelength) has been investigated with aim evaluating its potential for surface protection. contact angle (CA) a water drop placed on was used to assess wettability processed areas. Although are initially hydrophilic treatment, after few days they develop strong hydrophobic behavior. Marble have irradiated different scan line separations elucidate relative roles roughness (nano- and micro-texture) chemical changes at surface. time evolution then monitored up 11 months treatment. A short long-term evolution, associated combined effect attachment species over time, observed. XPS ATR measurements consistent progressive hydroxylation treated although additional contribution hydrocarbon adsorbates cannot be ruled-out. robustness results tested CA cleaning in conditions very positive results.

Laser Surface Texturing of Polymers for Biomedical Applications
Polymers are materials widely used in biomedical science because of their biocompatibility, and good mechanical properties (which, in some cases, are similar to those of human tissues); however, these materials are, in general, chemically and biologically inert. Surface characteristics, such as topography (at the macro-, micro, and nano-scale), surface chemistry, surface energy, charge, or wett...
متن کاملEffect of surface texturing by femtosecond laser on tantalum carbide ceramics for solar receiver applications
Tantalum carbide, as a Ultra-High Temperature Ceramic, is known to be characterized by intrinsic spectral selectivity, which makes it attractive for novel high-temperature thermal solar absorbers. However, a weakness point of TaC is the solar absorbance, which, in absence of any treatment, is usually lower than that of other materials currently under development for solar absorber applications....
متن کاملOptimum dimple diameter for friction reduction with laser surface texturing: the effect of velocity gradient
This paper describes the modelling and testing of mm-scale hydrodynamic bearings which are being developed to improve the efficiency of a cm-scale turbine energy harvester, whose efficiency was previously limited by poorly lubricated commercial jewel-bearings. The bearings were fabricated using DRIE and their performance was assessed using a custom built MEMS tribometer. Results demonstrate tha...
متن کاملLaser profilometry and flash thermography for surface roughness assessment of Pentelic marble
Two non-contact NDT & E (non-destructive testing and evaluation) techniques were employed in the inspection of quarry Pentelic marble samples; surface profilometry and infrared thermography. The samples were processed with different roughness treatments (i.e. 60, 80, 100, 220, 400 and 600 mesh) and were evaluated in the laboratory. Furthermore, different surface cleaning treatments were applied...
متن کاملNanorod Surface Plasmon Enhancement of Laser-Induced Ultrafast Demagnetization
Ultrafast laser-induced magnetization dynamics in ferromagnetic thin films were measured using a femtosecond Ti:sapphire laser in a pump-probe magneto-optic Kerr effect setup. The effect of plasmon resonance on the transient magnetization was investigated by drop-coating the ferromagnetic films with dimensionally-tuned gold nanorods supporting longitudinal surface plasmon resonance near the cen...
